Fifty thousand photographs, open windows on unforgettable cities, which compose an infinite mosaic of points of view of art, architecture, history, town planning, tradition. In this photographic corpus of high historic value, it is possible to search for photographs and buy copies (B/W – Colour) and it will also be possible to buy the thematic CD-ROMs:

- Buildings in Rome between the 16th and the 18th Centuries
The Cd Rom contains more than 1000 historical images from the Photo Gallery, plus 22’ of filmed pieces and audio texts on the 13 major buildings built in Rome between the 16th and the 18th centuries, as well as on their surrounding neighbourhoods.

- Archaeology in Rome between 1870 and 1930
The Cd Rom contains more than 1000 historical images from the Photo Gallery, plus 27’ of documentary filmed pieces from the “Luce” Institute and audio texts on the main archaeological initiatives involving Rome’s monuments between 1870 and 1930.

- The Paintings of the Spada Gallery
The Cd Rom contains images of all the paintings in the Spada Gallery, plus a database with the main information on the works and the possibility of running searches by artist, date, subject and title, in addition to 20’ of filmed sequences on the gallery rooms in the Mpeg format.

- Multilingual Thesaurus of Religious Objects
The CD Rom contains parallel lists of terms in three languages (Italian, English and French). There are four ways to consult the Thesaurus: the general alphabetical index, the hierarchical structure, the photography archive and the parallel thesauruses, which permit simultaneous viewing of the definitions found on the hierarchical lists.

- The Historic Piazzas of Southern Italy and the Italian Islands
There are 4 CD Roms that cover 168 piazzas, with more than 4000 vector drawings and 10,000 images, texts and audio texts, plus a database in which the piazzas can be searched for under a variety of criteria.

    - Ianua Coeli. Drawings by Cristoforo Roncalli for the Basilica of Loreto (1609-1615)
    Contains images of the drawings done by Cristoforo Roncalli, better known as “Pomarancio”, for the first frescoes painted on the cupola of the Basilica of Loreto; works later replaced by a series painted Cesare Maccari. Starting with a study of the overall composition, a guided tour is taken amidst the drawings behind the lost frescoes of the basilica, for which a graphic reconstruction is provided.

    - Drawings by Cesare Maccari for the Basilica of Loreto (1888-1908)
    Contains images, which are compared and accompanied by commentary, of the sketches, preliminary drawings and frescoes painted on the cupola of the Basilica of Loreto by Cesare Maccari, offering a look at the creative process followed by the artist in decorating the cupola of the basilica.

    Search

    The search can be carried out in two different ways:

    1. on the Photo Cards The photo card allows the object-photograph to be searched for as it is. It is therefore possible to search according to the author of the photograph, the subject, the original background or directly according to the number of the negative

    2. on the Photographed Objects Cards This way of searching is based on the visual content of the photograph: the monument, the painting or even the particular depicted.

      Search mode based on the visual content of the photo, i.e. the monument, the picture or the detail that it depicts.
      Searches can be carried out by Author, Object/Subject, Dating, Location, Conservation or Finding. - author: painter, sculptor, architect, or craftsman that created the work of art.
      - object/subject: description of the painting, sculpture, etc., name of the church or monument depicted etc.
      - dating: reference date for the work of art.
      - location: topographic indication of the place where the work can be admired: via or square, city or country, province.
      - conservation:search field which refers to the place where the object is kept, that may be a museum, a church, a monument or an art gallery…
      - finding: field that refers to the archaeological objects; it refers to the location where the object was found.

    3. by Photocolor
      In addition to the procedures already contemplated under point 1.2, searches can also be run using the general catalogue or inventory number.

    4. by Postcards
      In the case of this specific sector, the search can also be run for the publisher or for the information in the "travelled" field.

    5. on the Di Loreto set of the Andrč collection
      further to the search method indicated above, this data bank may be searched using the "Nation" field.

    6. SINGLE QUERY
      In a single interface, the query runs on the entire database.

    Purchasing

    The National Photograph Library provides an on-line purchasing service for images obtained by high resolution acquisition from the original by laser printing at 600 dpi or in digital format either on a CD-ROM or in a file to be downloaded from the site and the thematic CD-ROMs. The photograph dimensions are indicative. The reproductions thus obtained are delivered direct to the address provided. The dimensions of the digital files go from a minimum of 3 Mbyte to an utmost of 14 Mbyte.
    Buying on the National Photograph Library site is simple: just click on the basket icon against the photograph selected and/or the CD ROM(s) desired. Once you have completed your selection of photographs, your purchase order is ready, and the systems automatically asks you for address details and your choice of payment:

    1. Traditional payment method.
      Payment via paying sum into a bank or post office account.Please note that for the traditional payment method, the order will be issued when the bank or post office confirms receipt of payment.

    2. Online payment method.
      The purchase procedure becomes extremely simple and rapid, via credit card payment, which is safe and protected.
